Cybersecurity company ThreatSpike has announced the appointment of Katie Newton, the former global head of sales at Darktrace, as an investor and advisor. This strategic addition follows ThreatSpike’s recent £10.4 million Series A funding round, which marks a significant milestone after a decade of bootstrapping. Newton will collaborate closely with ThreatSpike’s go-to-market teams to enhance the startup’s international growth and market presence.

Newton brings with her a wealth of experience, having spent ten years in leadership roles, including four years as the global head of sales at Darktrace. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in transforming the company from a startup to a publicly listed unicorn valued at $5 billion. Her efforts expanded Darktrace’s customer base to over 100 countries and involved leading the company through an IPO. Her expertise in scaling global sales operations, opening new markets, and building high-performance teams is expected to significantly influence ThreatSpike’s next phase of expansion.

Adam Blake, CEO of ThreatSpike, stated, “It’s a huge win to have Katie with us. Having taken a cyber startup from practically zero revenue to one of the most recognised names in cybersecurity, she’s the perfect match for helping bring our ambitions to life. Our funding round, combined with our recent customer wins, have sent a signal that our messaging is resonating with businesses. They want a return to simplicity and cost transparency in the tech platforms they’re buying. Katie’s decision to join us validates this mission tremendously, and her journey at Darktrace is the blueprint for the kind of growth ThreatSpike is targeting.”

Founded in 2011 by computer scientists Adam and Kate Blake, ThreatSpike has developed a comprehensive cybersecurity platform that integrates endpoint, network, email, cloud detection, incident response, and unlimited red-teaming capabilities. The company has recently doubled its workforce to around 50 employees and opened a new office in Mayfair, London. Additionally, it has strengthened its board of directors by appointing notable figures from the tech industry, including Emily Orton, co-founder of Darktrace.

Newton expressed her enthusiasm for joining ThreatSpike, stating, “What drew me to ThreatSpike is their fearlessness in shaking up the old cybersecurity playbook. They are relentless in their focus on delivering real value to customers, without the complexity and hidden costs that plague traditional cybersecurity and IT offerings. It’s hitting the reset switch on what cybersecurity and IT should look like: simple and outcome-focused. I’m looking forward to helping the team scale that vision globally.”
