ICC and members launch initiative for cricket mobile game. Cricket’s governing body, the ICC, along with its 12 members, including England, have initiated an expression of interest to develop a mobile game aimed at transforming fan engagement. The objective is to create a cricket version of Fifa, attracting new forms of fandom. The process involves inviting top game developers, publishers, and gaming ventures to express interest in building and publishing the game, followed by a formal tender process.

ICC chair Jay Shah highlighted the unique opportunity this project represents to reimagine cricket in the digital realm, engaging a modern audience and reflecting the sport’s global reach. The announcement comes after a successful ICC World Test Championship final, where South Africa defeated Australia at Lord’s, a venue known for its strong cricket following.

England may host the next three World Test Championships, continuing its success in organising the event. The ICC’s initiative is seen as a key strategic milestone, aligning with its members to present a unified opportunity for a visionary partner to influence the future of cricket fandom through digital gaming.

The full membership group includes cricketing nations such as Bangladesh, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, and Zimbabwe, alongside England, India, and Australia. Despite challenges, Afghanistan remains a full member, though it cannot field a women’s team.
