IBM has unveiled the IBM Envizi Emissions API, a new tool designed to allow organisations to incorporate greenhouse gas (GHG) calculations into their existing or developing data tools. This solution is part of IBM’s ESG data platform, the Envizi ESG Suite. IBM acquired Envizi in 2022 to bolster its AI-driven ESG solutions capabilities, and since then, it has expanded the platform to include features such as supply chain emissions data and analysis, as well as CSRD sustainability reporting capabilities.

The new solution is aimed at sustainability managers and enterprise teams who prefer using spreadsheets for emissions calculations, and software vendors developing their own solutions. It addresses common challenges such as the reliance on manual spreadsheets, the inconsistency of emissions datasets, and the high cost and complexity of developing emissions engines independently.

IBM states that the Envizi Emissions API includes a library of over 140,000 globally recognised emission datasets. It ensures that factor sets are current and transparent, offering the ability to select emission datasets from a variety of global and regional sources to facilitate protocol-aligned calculations.

Kendra DeKeyrel, Vice President of Asset Lifecycle Management Product and Engineering at IBM, commented on the new solution in a recent announcement, stating, “IBM’s Envizi Emissions API empowers organisations to make sustainability part of everyday decision-making.”
