Engie North America has announced a partnership with Prometheus Hyperscale, a developer of sustainable hyperscale data centres, to co-locate data centres at renewable and battery storage energy facilities in Texas. Prometheus Hyperscale, launched last year, is committed to delivering scalable and environmentally responsible infrastructure by integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices into its data centre designs. One of the company’s key innovations is its proprietary liquid cooling system, which significantly outperforms traditional air cooling methods, reducing facility energy consumption by up to 50% and eliminating water usage. The company also aims to power its data centres with 100% renewable energy through strategic partnerships. Bernard Looney, former CEO of BP, was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors in November 2024.

Bernard Looney stated, “Prometheus is committed to developing sustainable, next-generation digital infrastructure for AI. We cannot do this alone – ENGIE’s existing assets and expertise as a major player in the global energy transition make them a perfect partner as we work to build data centres that meet market needs today and tomorrow.”

Under the new agreement, Prometheus will deploy its high-efficiency, liquid-cooled data centre infrastructure alongside Engie’s renewable and battery storage assets along the Texas I-35 corridor. The first co-located sites from this collaboration are expected to go live in 2026, with more locations planned from 2027 onwards.

David Carroll, Chief Renewables Officer and SVP, ENGIE North America, commented, “ENGIE is focused on delivering solutions to meet the growing demand for power across the U.S., with a strategic focus on enabling data centre expansion. By leveraging our robust portfolio of wind, solar, and battery storage assets — combined with our commercial and industrial supply capabilities and deep trading expertise — we’re providing integrated energy solutions that support scalable, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure.”
