Planet Mark, a sustainability certification provider, has announced the appointment of Avital Johanan as Managing Director. Johanan steps into the role from Steve Malkin, the founder of Planet Mark, who will transition to the position of Founder and Senior Advisor. Established in 2013, the London-based company offers sustainability certification for businesses committed to measuring and reducing carbon emissions. It also provides certification for the built environment, focusing on lifecycle building carbon emissions, fit and retrofit certification, and property certification. Additionally, it addresses social value certification, encompassing categories such as people, community, volunteering, donation, procurement, and environmental impacts. The company was acquired by Alcumus, a health, safety, and ESG risk management provider, in 2023.

Johanan will lead Planet Mark’s next phase of growth, with a particular emphasis on supply chain risk management and SME engagement. This focus is becoming increasingly critical for businesses’ carbon reduction and net zero progress. She joined Planet Mark in early 2024 as Chief Product Officer and brings a background in data products and business transformation, having previously served as Executive Director at IHS Markit, an information and analytics provider.

Malkin expressed pride in the company’s achievements, stating, “Planet Mark has proven time and time again that sustainability can be a source of growth and resilience for every business.
