EY has announced the appointment of Colm Devine as its new Global Vice Chair for Sustainability. In this role, Devine will be responsible for leading the firm’s global sustainability and climate agenda. Devine, who has been with EY for over 20 years, previously led the firm’s Power & Utilities Sector practice in the UK and Ireland. His expertise includes providing advisory services in areas such as programme advisory, contract risk services, corporate governance, risk management, as well as corporate, strategic, and business planning.

In his new position, Devine will lead teams across EY to support the design and delivery of services aimed at helping the firm and its clients achieve their sustainability goals. This will involve leveraging technology and artificial intelligence, as well as supporting the upskilling and engagement of EY professionals worldwide in sustainability matters. Devine will also work with C-suite leaders to facilitate underlying changes required for sustainability transformation.

Devine succeeds Amy Brachio, the former EY Global Vice Chair for Sustainability, who was recently appointed CEO of Carbon Measures. This new coalition, comprising major financial, energy, and industrial companies, aims to establish a more accurate and consistent accounting framework for tracking carbon emissions at both company and product levels, and to set carbon intensity standards for key industrial products.

In a statement regarding his appointment, Devine noted the growing intersection between sustainability, policy, technology, and competitive forces, highlighting the opportunity to harness EY’s global capabilities and alliances for the benefit of both people and clients. He emphasised that sustainability is not only essential but also offers a significant competitive advantage in global markets, expressing his enthusiasm for supporting disruptive thinking and change.
