Birmingham City receive major investment for Sports Quarter development. Birmingham City’s Sports Quarter is set to benefit from a significant multi-million pound investment after Chancellor Rachel Reeves pledged funds to extend the city’s metro to the club’s proposed new stadium. This initiative, part of the £2.4bn allocated to the West Midlands, will connect the Sports Quarter to the city centre, according to West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker. The club’s owners, Knighthead Capital, previously suggested a tunnel linking the new stadium with New Street Station. Knighthead’s Tom Wagner welcomed the Chancellor’s commitment to improve transport links in East Birmingham, highlighting the project’s potential to generate jobs, opportunities, and economic growth nationwide. Last year, the group acquired land for a 60-acre site intended for the new stadium and campus, expected to be completed within a decade at a cost exceeding £2bn. The development could provide an annual regional benefit of £450m and support 8,000 jobs. The new venue aims to surpass the 30,000 capacity of St Andrew’s. Club chief Jeremy Dale emphasised the project’s role in enhancing community contribution, thanks to the investment confirmed by Parker. The Chancellor may announce further sports initiatives in the upcoming Spending Review.
