Immutable storage customers offered direct payout protection against destructive cyberattacks. Scality has introduced a $100,000 cyber guarantee for ARTESCA customers whose immutable backup data is destroyed or encrypted by an external cyberattack.

Scality has launched what it describes as the industry’s first financial cyber guarantee attached directly to an immutable storage platform, offering ARTESCA customers a $100,000 payout if external attackers successfully destroy or encrypt protected data.

The guarantee — announced alongside the ARTESCA 4.1.3 software release — applies to all commercial ARTESCA licences without requiring additional support contracts or service purchases. Customers must maintain the latest version of the software and store protected data using S3 Object Lock in compliance mode to qualify.

Scality said the programme is designed primarily for mid-market organisations, which often face the same ransomware risks as larger enterprises but lack comparable cyber-recovery budgets.

“Customers count on ARTESCA to ensure their backup data remains safe, recoverable, and tamper-proof even under the most extreme conditions,” said Jérôme Lecat, CEO of Scality. “With this cyber guarantee, we’re putting our money where our architecture is. It’s a simple, direct promise that reflects the confidence we have in ARTESCA’s cyber resilience.”

The financial guarantee applies regardless of the size of the deployment, provided the organisation operates at least a 50TB licensed installation and follows Scality’s recommended deployment and configuration practices. According to the company, a typical mid-market deployment protecting around 50TB of data may cost only a few thousand dollars annually while still qualifying for the full payout.

Strengthening resilience through software updates —

The guarantee coincides with new cyber-resilience features introduced in ARTESCA 4.1.3, aimed at improving the integrity and recoverability of backup environments.

Enhancements include updated certificate and trust-management capabilities designed to strengthen secure integrations, expanded replication features to support distributed resilience architectures, and broader support for immutable object protection through Object Lock.

Immutable storage has become a central component of modern backup strategies as ransomware groups increasingly target backup repositories in addition to production data. By preventing modification or deletion during a defined retention period, object-lock mechanisms ensure that recovery copies remain intact even if administrative credentials are compromised.

ARTESCA has gained traction as an immutable storage target for backup ecosystems built on platforms such as Veeam and Commvault. These integrations allow organisations to store backup data in object-based storage environments that enforce immutability at the storage layer rather than through application controls alone.

Industry analysts have increasingly emphasised the importance of “assurance-based” cyber resilience, where vendors provide measurable guarantees or contractual commitments tied to security performance. Scality’s programme reflects a shift toward more tangible protection models, particularly as ransomware attacks continue to disrupt organisations across sectors.

The ARTESCA Cyber Guarantee is included in all commercial ARTESCA licences and is governed by eligibility conditions defined in the ARTESCA end-user licence agreement.

Customers must deploy ARTESCA version 4.1.3 or later, maintain the latest software updates, and store protected data using S3 Object Lock in compliance mode. The platform must also be deployed in accordance with Scality’s recommended configuration practices.

The company said customers can work directly with Scality or authorised partners to confirm eligibility and ensure deployments meet the programme’s requirements.
