Edinburgh-based digital project consultancy Waracle has acquired HackSoft, a software development company headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria, in a move that marks the company’s first expansion outside the UK.
The deal gives Waracle a strategic presence in one of Europe’s key technology hubs, broadening its access to technical talent and strengthening its capacity to deliver digital solutions for a growing international client base. HackSoft, founded in 2017, employs a 55-strong team known for its engineering expertise and collaborative culture.
The acquisition extends Waracle’s reach into continental Europe and builds on a period of accelerated growth. Backed by growth capital investor BGF, the company has expanded its UK workforce to 210 people across offices in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Dundee. Waracle’s client portfolio spans financial services, energy, health, and the public sector.
David Tuck, CEO of Waracle, said the partnership followed a period of close collaboration between the two businesses. “Our growth plans are ambitious and a key part of our strategy has been to find a talented team with technical capabilities that complement our own,” he said. “We worked with HackSoft for several months on a strategic client engagement, so we know first-hand our cultures align — we share similar values based on fostering a strong, inclusive culture and are both committed to being a trusted partner for our clients.”
Tuck added that HackSoft’s open-source ethos and focus on talent development made it a natural fit for Waracle’s expanding portfolio. “HackSoft’s culture, technical talent, commitment to open source, and its impressive track record with its training academy makes it a fantastic addition to the Waracle team.”
Radoslav Georgiev, HackSoft’s co-founder and CEO, described the deal as a step forward for both businesses. “Joining Waracle is an incredible opportunity for the HackSoft team,” he said. “We have always aimed to be more than just developers; we strive to be true partners in our clients’ success. In Waracle, we have found a partner that not only shares our vision but can also provide a platform for greater growth and more complex, exciting challenges for our team.”
Waracle’s founder and CTO Mike Wharton said the companies’ shared philosophy was central to the decision. “Waracle has been about doing great work with great people since day one,” he said. “Working with HackSoft has been exceptional; they’re a dedicated team of talented engineers who truly care about their craft and their people. It’s a natural fit and a huge win for both our teams and our clients.”
The acquisition establishes Waracle’s first European base, extending its delivery capability across new markets and time zones. The company said HackSoft’s expertise in web development and data services will complement its existing strength in digital transformation and enterprise applications.
