M Group has acquired high-voltage engineering specialist HVSS, expanding its electricity network connections business with more than 120 employees and capabilities covering projects at voltages of up to 132kV.
The acquisition adds a Kettering-based independent connection provider to M Group’s Energy Infrastructure division, increasing its ability to design, install, and maintain electrical connections for major commercial and industrial developments.
Financial terms have not been disclosed. HVSS generated revenue of approximately £48.2m and operating profit of £6.6m during the year ended March 2025, according to financial figures reported by Construction Wave.
Founded in 2010, HVSS operates from Kettering, Leeds, and Cardiff. Its activities include high-voltage electricity connections and multi-utility infrastructure serving industrial, commercial, residential, healthcare, and electric vehicle projects.
The business acts as an independent connection provider, delivering specialist engineering work required to connect new developments and infrastructure to electricity distribution networks.
These projects can involve several stages, beginning with network assessment and technical design before progressing through engineering, construction, testing, and energisation. Customers may also require subsequent upgrades and maintenance as their electricity requirements change.
Such capabilities have become increasingly important as new developments demand larger or more complex electrical connections. Data centres require substantial and reliable electricity supplies, while electric vehicle charging networks, industrial facilities, and renewable energy installations place additional requirements on distribution infrastructure.
Developers often need to coordinate electrical engineering with planning, construction, land access, and other utility connections. Work on one element can affect the timetable for an entire project, particularly where a new site cannot begin operating until suitable electrical capacity is available.
M Group intends to combine HVSS’s specialist connections expertise with its existing infrastructure services. The enlarged operation will cover activities ranging from initial design and installation to energisation, network enhancement, and ongoing maintenance.
The acquisition also extends the group’s access to privately owned electricity networks and multi-utility projects. These arrangements can be important for commercial estates, industrial parks, and developments where electrical infrastructure must be designed around the requirements of several occupiers.
HVSS managing director Richard Parkes will remain associated with the business following the acquisition. M Group has identified the engineering team’s experience and established customer relationships as important parts of the transaction.
For HVSS, joining a larger infrastructure group creates opportunities to participate in more extensive projects. M Group operates across electricity, water, telecommunications, and other essential infrastructure, giving the acquired business access to a broader range of customers and project requirements.
The transaction continues M Group’s expansion through acquisitions. Backed by CVC Capital Partners, the company has previously added specialist engineering and infrastructure businesses, including Telent and Aran Group.
M Group generated approximately £3.08bn in annual revenue during its financial year ended March 2026. HVSS represents a smaller addition to that portfolio but brings specialist capabilities in a market where technical expertise and project delivery capacity are increasingly sought by developers.
The acquisition also adds regional engineering resources through HVSS’s existing locations in the Midlands, Yorkshire, and Wales. Its workforce will contribute specialist high-voltage design and delivery experience to M Group’s established energy infrastructure operations.
The enlarged business will provide connection services across commercial, industrial, and utility infrastructure projects, bringing HVSS’s existing engineering capabilities into a group with broader construction and maintenance operations.
