New agentic AI teammate targets IT operations

IT teams are being offered a new SolarWinds AI operator. The company said SW1 will help organisations observe, manage, and protect complex hybrid environments through governed automation.

The launch is built on the SolarWinds Agentic Framework and the company’s AI by Design principles. SW1 is intended to provide a single trusted interface for orchestrating AI across on-premises data centres, private cloud, public cloud, and hybrid estates. SolarWinds said users will be able to query agents in natural language across both its Observability Self-Hosted and SaaS products to get unified insight into performance, capacity, and system health.

The release comes as hybrid complexity and multi-cloud usage continue to raise the pressure on IT teams to detect problems earlier, improve visibility, and automate more of the day-to-day operational burden. SolarWinds said SW1 is intended to support that shift by making it easier to gather AI-generated insight and act on it within governed controls.

“The organisations succeeding in this new era will be defined by how quickly they can move their IT leadership from managing complexity to driving strategy. SW1 makes that possible, by shifting teams from manual, reactive operations to intelligent, autonomous infrastructure that anticipates problems before users encounter them,” said Cullen Childress, Chief Product Officer, SolarWinds. “This isn’t just about operational efficiency. It’s about giving your best people the room to architect what comes next, while SW1 handles the operational weight underneath.”

SolarWinds also outlined the next phase of the product. Planned additions over the coming quarters include tools to predict SLO and SLA risk, generate runbooks and workflows from existing knowledge bases, discover unmanaged assets, recommend monitoring coverage, create dashboards and alerts, reduce duplicate alert noise, and extend governance through customer-defined guardrails.

The company linked that roadmap to broader changes in IT roles. In its 2026 IT Trends Report, SolarWinds said 80% of surveyed professionals reported a shift from operator to orchestrator, with more time spent interpreting AI outputs, designing workflows, and validating machine-generated recommendations. SW1 is available now in SolarWinds Observability SaaS and Self-Hosted environments, with further capability updates due throughout 2026.
