Global digital services and consulting firm Infosys has unveiled a new set of commitments under its updated sustainability strategy, “Infosys ESG Vision 2030.” This includes an ambitious goal to become carbon negative by the end of the decade, aiming to absorb more greenhouse gases than it emits.

Infosys introduced its ESG Vision 2030 strategy in 2020 and also announced at that time that it had achieved carbon neutrality, honouring a target first set by the company in 2011. The company’s refreshed ambition now includes a target to decrease absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% from a 2020 baseline by 2030, and Scope 3 emissions by 40%. Infosys has also committed to maintaining carbon neutrality through 2030 and engaging clients on climate action through its solutions.

Beyond climate change, the Infosys ESG Vision 2030 embraces areas such as water and waste management, digital skills and employability, fostering workplace inclusivity, community engagement, employee wellness, corporate governance, data privacy, and information management.

Other objectives in the updated strategy include extending digital skills to empower at least 18 million people, enabling employment opportunities for at least 500,000 individuals, achieving zero waste to landfill, cultivating a gender-diverse workforce with 45% women, and fostering sustainable communities through Tech for Good initiatives, job creation, and CSR efforts.

The company reported that over 98% of its clients are involved with its ESG offerings as it strives to integrate sustainability into its technology and consulting services, encompassing areas such as responsible AI and sustainable software engineering.

Infosys CEO Salil Parekh commented:

“As we’ve made progress on our ESG aspirations, our vision for the future has grown bolder too. This is reflected in the updates that we have made to the Infosys ESG Vision 2030. What remains unchanged is our continued commitment to be a well-governed organisation living its purpose to amplify human potential and create the next opportunity for people, businesses, and communities.”
