Deutsche Bank’s Moorgate headquarters wins City of London award.

Deutsche Bank’s headquarters at Moorgate has secured the City of London Building of the Year Award, unanimously outshining its competitors. This marks the second consecutive win for the Wilkinson Eyre-designed 21 Moorfields, with judges praising its architectural and technical sophistication. The jury, comprising architects and experts from the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects, hailed the site as “a tour de force of architectural thinking and creative collaboration.” The extraordinary structure spans 60 metres of active underground infrastructure, achieved without disrupting the station or rail services below.

“The challenges facing the architects were extreme,” the jury noted, applauding the team for overcoming technical obstacles while maintaining architectural excellence. A commemorative plaque for the over-station development will be unveiled by the Lord Mayor of London on 15 October. “We are delighted to be named the winner of City of London Building of the Year for the second year running,” said Giles Martin, Board Director at Wilkinson Eyre. “Its expressive structure belies the complexity of the station tunnels and platforms below, and we are proud it will stand for generations, showcasing the best of London’s skill and talent.”

The landscape, featuring a roof terrace and independent energy system, was crafted by Andy Sturgeon, with Robert Bird Group as the Structural Engineer. “Wilkinson Eyre have created a fantastic new headquarters for us here in London,” stated Vathany Vijayaratna, Deutsche Bank’s UKI CEO. “21 Moorfields has been significant for us. It’s the largest office we’ve ever had in the UK, and the quality and thoughtfulness of their design has stood out. The space strikes a perfect balance between functionality and modern design, fostering collaboration and inspiring innovation. Feedback from clients, visitors, and staff has been overwhelmingly positive, and it’s a building we’re proud to welcome people into.”
