Assent unveils EU deforestation compliance tool

Assent launches EU Deforestation Regulation compliance solution for manufacturers. The new solution aids manufacturers in meeting due diligence requirements under the EU’s regulation, which aims to prevent deforestation-linked products from entering the market, ensuring compliance with environmental standards by 2025….

Assent, a provider of supply chain sustainability management solutions, has unveiled its EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) solution. This new offering is designed to assist manufacturers in adhering to the EU’s stringent due diligence requirements, intended to ensure products do not contribute to global deforestation and forest degradation.

The EUDR, introduced by the European Commission in November 2021, seeks to prohibit deforestation-linked products in the EU market. It sets out rigorous compliance standards for companies dealing with key commodities such as palm oil, beef, timber, coffee, cocoa, rubber, and soy, along with their derivatives like leather, chocolate, tyres, and furniture.

Under these regulations, companies aiming to place or export relevant products in the EU must adhere to mandatory due diligence rules. This includes tracing products back to their production plots to verify they are from land not deforested post-2020 and ensuring compliance with the applicable laws of the production country.

The regulation became effective in June 2023, with full applicability slated for the end of 2025. By this time, large and medium-sized companies are required to submit due diligence statements.

Assent, headquartered in Ottawa, offers systems to aid manufacturers in collecting and managing supply chain data necessary for compliance with environmental and social product standards. Their new solution aims to assist manufacturers facing challenges in documenting and reporting EUDR compliance before the December 2025 deadline.

The solution’s key features include identifying affected parts and suppliers, mapping parts to commodities, engaging with suppliers across languages, collecting geolocation data, and generating compliant due diligence statements.

Catherine Cormier, Chief Product Officer at Assent, stated, “With this product launch, we are continuing to help manufacturers reduce operational risk and build stronger, more transparent supply chains that stand up to regulatory and partner scrutiny.”

Data infrastructure decisions now sit beside debt, power, and politics. TikTok’s Finnish expansion and wider financing moves show sovereignty is now a capital-allocation issue, not just a compliance one.

Modest rewards still matter, but access remains sharply uneven nationwide. GCVA says gift cards can boost morale and loyalty, yet part-time workers and public sector staff are far less likely to receive them.
