Generate Capital, a sustainable infrastructure investor and operator, has announced the appointment of David Crane as its new CEO and Chairman of the Board. Crane, the former U.S. Department of Energy Under Secretary for Infrastructure, will succeed Scott Jacobs, co-founder of Generate, who has held the position for over a decade.

The company stated that Crane’s appointment positions Generate to seize opportunities in the rapidly changing energy market. Richard Kauffman, former Chairman and current Independent Director of Generate Capital, expressed confidence in Crane’s ability to further the company’s mission of delivering value to shareholders while advancing the energy transition.

Founded in 2014, Generate Capital builds, owns, operates, and finances critical infrastructure in sectors such as power, mobility, waste, green digital, water, agriculture, and industrial decarbonisation. The firm has raised over $14 billion and manages more than 2,000 assets globally. These include microgrids, solar energy, energy storage, and sustainable mobility solutions like electric and hydrogen vehicles, as well as sustainable water and waste management systems.

Crane’s background includes serving as CEO of five publicly traded energy companies and holding a board position at JERA Co., Inc. He expressed his commitment to maintaining Generate’s operational excellence and focus on the energy transition. Crane emphasised the importance of the firm’s operator mindset, strong financial standing, and market insight. His short-term goals include maximising portfolio value, investing in high-performing assets, and building Generate’s credit business.

Crane’s leadership is expected to guide Generate Capital into a new phase of growth, enhancing its role as a vital resource for partners, investors, and communities.
